Brewer Middle School is extremely fortunate to have Coach Anthony Coates leading our football team!!! GO BULLDOGS!!

Coach Coates attended the public schools of Greenwood. He graduated from Greenwood High in 1984, while at Greenwood High School. Coates was a standout athlete, he played basketball, football and was an all region player on the baseball team.

He began his coaching career in 2005 at Emerald High School under Coach Mike Clowney for 3 years. 

Coates spent 14 years coaching at Greenwood high Coach Coates has been married for 32 years to Vonda M. Coates; they have 3 children a son Antavious Coates who graduated from Greenwood high school in 2005 and also from the University of Georgia where he received his Master’s Degree in Sports Marketing. Twin daughters Adrianna and Adrian Coates both graduated from Greenwood High in 2011 and Columbia College. Adrianna received her Master’s degree from Tennessee St University in Speech Language Pathology and Adrian received her Master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in Educational Psychology and Research.

Coach Coates has 3 grandchildren AJ, Aiden and Alijah. He is a member of the Young’s Chapel Baptist Church where he serves as Assistant Chairman of The Deacon Board and is a member of the Inspirational Choir.
