Application/Audition Process

 

Magnet School Due Dates 

  1. Complete an application. Due January 23rd! 

2.An academic teacher (or community member that is not a relative, for homeschooled students) who is able to comment on the student academically should complete the Greenwood School District 50 Magnet Teacher Reference Form by January 23, 2026.

  1. When all of your paperwork is complete you will receive notification of your audition time. 

 

Audition Date is Monday, February 16, 2026. Audition time will be announced. 


ACTS - What to Expect on Audition Day 

Audition will take place on Monday, February 16, 2026. Audition times will be assigned based on the art area(s) selected. Students auditioning for two art areas, may receive two separate times. 

  • Arrive at Brewer Middle School at least 15 minutes prior to your assigned audition time.
  • Check-in will take place in the Commons Area. Student will receive his/her audition number at check-in. All applications and letters of recommendation must be complete prior to auditions and deadlines. 
  • Students will be expected to complete a writing prompt on-site after their audition; all materials will be provided. 
  • Parents can wait in their cars during auditions or leave and come back after their child’s audition is complete. 

Each art form has a specific criteria. Please consult the table below:

* Do not wear dance attire such as leotards, dance shoes etc. 

* Do not wear baggy shirts as the judges can not assess alignment. 

* Do wear fitness attire. Wear dark 

colored attire that allows full range of movement. Be prepared to dance barefoot. 

* Hair needs to be worn up away from the face. 

* MEMORIZE 

online routine prior to audition to be executed individually. 

*Monologue 

Audition - 

*Male students will MEMORIZE a provided selection  from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. *Female students will MEMORIZE a provided selection  from Junie B. Jones. Students will perform the selection for the audition. 

*Improvisation Audition - 

All students will also be expected to 

improvise during their audition time. 

*Wear something within dress code that makes you feel proud. 

*Students will not prepare a piece for this audition. *Students do not have to already know how to play an instrument.

*Be prepared to clap rhythms 

(quarter, half, and eighth notes), 

match pitch, 

identify high and low pitch 

*Wear something within dress code that makes you feel proud. 

*Voice Audition *Prepare to sing one of the songs allowed for the voice 

audition. 

*Visit the audition page on the Brewer website to find recordings of 

these songs. 

*Voice Audition rehearse the

*Students trying out for visual art can expect to draw a still life from observation on site during the audition. 

*Students can also expect to complete a drawing on site that highlights the student’s 

creativity. 

*All materials will be supplied.
