Student makes history with art submission

6th grade ACTS visual art focus student, Elizabeth Lake, won 2nd place in this years' Artfields Jr. competition in Lake City, SC. Artfields is the largest art competition in the southeast. Elizabeth is the first Brewer student to even be accepted into the show. Her prize was $300. We are very proud of her accomplishment!

Here is a picture of her artwork that won 2nd place. The medium is colored pencil and the artwork is entitled "Warmth and Tiny Little Yellow Flowers". This is her artist statement about the piece:  "The drawing was created to show what I can do and to make me, along with others, proud. With the yellow of the tiny flowers and the large face lit, I feel that it shows something more than just a pretty drawing but the contrast in life with the light and dark, warm and cool. One of my favorite things about the artwork is the warmth and happiness I feel from it, and I'm proud to be a colored pencil artist."
